East Berlin (20+ Years Ago)

“East Berlin” – Photo by D-Monk (1987)

20 years ago I had the opportunity to visit Berlin. At that time the Wall still stood and Berlin was still divided between the Democratic West and the Communist East.

Some friends and I crossed the border at Checkpoint Charlie in the American sector of West Berlin. When you went into East Berlin you were forced to exchange a certain amount of currency. East German currency was basically worthless, so you really needed to spend it while you were over there.

The photo above is taken from the top of the East Berlin tv tower. It was a gray and cloudy day, but hack, we had to spend the money!

Below is a phot of an East German 10 Deutsch Mark bill. I couldn’t help noticing the resemblance between the lady on the bill and Larry “Bud” Melman who used to appear on the David Letterman show. Coincidence??

I don’t think so! Have you noticed that since the Wall came down and Germany has re-united that Larry “Bud” Melman is no longer around?

I am certain that he was a spy!!!
